Q&A with LoveMami

For those who haven’t heard of you and your label, can you introduce yourself?

Hi! My name is Miranda Malone and my cute little label is called lovemami.

What is your fashion background? Have you studied in this industry before? Have you always had an eye for trends/aesthetics?

I’ve loved fashion for as long as I can remember. Creating outfits is so much fun. I was lucky enough to fall into a fashion role with a small Melbourne business straight out of high school which solidified my passion and taught me a lot of what I know now.

Can you tell me the story behind the name ‘LoveMami’?

I was so stuck on a name! I wanted something cute, yet personal. ‘mami’ is made up from the 2 first letters of both my last and first name - Ma/lone Mi/randa and everything is love from me! (mami).

Your work is rather incredible, exploring the use of glitter materials, gems and mix/match patterns, etc. What was the idea/inspiration behind this?

I’m not sure about you but every time I see sparkles/diamantés, my attention is immediately caught. I love creating fun flirty fashion pieces that make you feel as sweet as can be.

You have some really cute pieces that can be worn in everyday or party environments. Can you describe the design process behind this? Where did this unique design come from?

I really don’t think too much about designs for be honest. I find the fabric first, come up with a design in my head and make a sample. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn’t. It’s my favourite part of the process, seeing your vision come to 3D life - even if it does fail.

Your designs have been worn by such influential people - has there ever been a moment/event that has been a highlight so far?

Seeing any supporting customer sparkling in their mami makes me the happiest girl alive.

With the immense issue of unethical standards/practices throughout the fashion industry, what is your stance on this and how do you try/plan to fight against this?

All our products are now made locally in Melbourne. Knowing where and who are garments are coming from means everything to us.

Do you have plans for another drop/future collections? Do you think you will stay within the glittery aesthetic or branch out into other unique designs?

Yessss! So many pieces are currently in the works. I like the idea of staying true to myself and the mami brand, so I guess…bring on the sparkles!

If you could pick out your favourite look by Love Mami what would it be?

It would have to be our Nudie Paris Halter + Nicole Shorts from our recent shoot. I mean - this photo speaks for itself.
