MUSIC EDIT
Exploding onto the scene in 2020 with their viral hit dumbshit, Sydney based duo Cat & Calmell cemented their unique voices into Australia pop music and playlists across the globe.
After his emergence in 2015, Jeremy Zucker has steadily built a career many young artists could only dream about. His 2018 breakout hit comethru has amassed almost a billion streams on Spotify alone, has performed on huge festival stages across the globe from Lollapalooza to Reading & Leads and continues to shine at his own headline shows around the world.
Multi-instrumentalist, producer, composer, arranger, and music director Lorren Chiodo serves us her stunning new release, ‘Multiplying’. This is her most vulnerable track yet, featuring a spell-binding combination of traditional orchestral elements, spine-tingling synths, soulful saxophone and electronica, with lyricism that speaks to the inner cravings of connection.
LIVE
When the Australian Open rolls around, it’s not just tennis that takes centre stage. AO Live has firmly cemented itself as a must-see music experience, bringing together some of the biggest names in live music. This year, the lineup delivered in every possible way, and we had the opportunity to check out Spacey Jane and Reneé Rapp lighting up John Cain Arena on separate nights. Each bringing their own brand of chaos and crowd-wide euphoria.
It was the 10th year anniversary of Beyond The Valley, with a huge lineup spread over the 4-day period, festival goers were in for quite the treat for their New Year’s celebrations.
English singer-songwriter Sam Fender touched down in Melbourne for two sold out nights at Sidney Myer Music bowl, in honour of his third studio album ‘People Watching’. The 2025 Mercy Prize winner's last trip to Australia was back in 2023 for an exclusive Perth show, but this time round travelling the country for the last leg of his ‘People Watching Tour’.
REVIEWS
It’s the start of a new September season, and what better way to kick off a new EP - “Analysis Paralysis” by everyone’s favourite headline Australian artist MAY-A. One of the most influential rising artists who has worked with international music sensations 5 Seconds Of Summer, Flume and Wallows, MAY-A continues to be a leading force in the music industry since her debut EP “Don’t Kiss Ur Friends” back in 2021.
Worried that there have not been enough big releases from local artists recently? Well, fear not. Enter G Flip, one of Australia’s surprise musical hot properties, and their new album, the appropriately titled Drummer. I confess I knew relatively little about the Naarm / Melbourne singer & drummer when I started this review. Happily, however, that means we’re working with a blank slate, so this album can be judged more accurately on its merits in a vacuum.
Typically here at Unraveled, we like to cover (relatively) new releases, giving you a deep dive into what’s what in the local and international music and fashion scenes. This review is going to be a little different though - it’s more of a tribute to a criminally underrated and almost totally obscure album. 0151 is the debut LP of Liverpool-based indie rock group The Night Cafe, which was released in 2019.
LISTEN
Spacey Jane’s ‘If That Makes Sense’ album is a true masterpiece. From the moment the intro seamlessly flows into the album, you know that the listening experience is going to be exceptional.
