A Q+A With TASH

Congratulations on the release of ’Supersonic’ - can you tell me about this track?

Thank you! Supersonic is all about confidence, and the weightlessness that self assurance can give you. I am quite an anxious person so when I have moments like this they feel huge. I love that I have this song as a reminder to be unafraid and to trust the process, and hope that my listeners can take the same message with them.

There is a clear RnB and house influence in this song, have you always been drawn to this sound? Do you have any particular influences for this sound?

I’ve always loved the rush you get from listening to something up-tempo, especially when the chords and melodies lean more RnB. It was after I discovered Kaytranada that I thought this could be a genre that I could explore within my writing.

You have worked with one of Australia’s favourite producers Mark J. Feist who also discovered your talent, what has it been like to work with him? How has he helped you evolve as an artist?

Working with Mark has been and will continue to be an amazing journey! I started working with him when I was 14, and at that point, I didn’t know how I saw myself as an artist. Over the years his collaboration has helped carve out my identity as an artist, as well as develop my skills in the studio. We have a very close bond and care very deeply about what we create, which makes for a great working dynamic. I am very lucky to work with somebody as passionate and dedicated as Mark!

‘Three Dimensional’ is also set to release shortly, can you tell me about this song?

Three Dimensional talks about reflecting on who you were in the past and not recognizing yourself. It’s a very strange feeling and I wanted to write something that validates that experience. As I’m entering my mid-twenties I am starting to realise how much we all change and evolve and that it’s perfectly okay to change your mind and pivot in a new direction.

You have built quite a large following across your socials, especially TikTok, what has it been like trying to promote your artistry on the platform? Has this growth come with some challenges or benefits?

I think any developing artist in this climate will tell you, that social media is such an amazing tool but a very demanding one at the same time. The constant need for content does make it hard to keep coming up with new ideas and have the mental bandwidth to write music as well. That being said, I am very grateful to have amassed a following through social media and it has helped my growth immensely. Without it I would not be in the place I am today.

You’re going to play some shows in Melbourne and Sydney next month, what can fans expect from the live show?

My listeners who attend the show can expect a fun, dynamic set list, as well as some very cool arrangements by my musical director Billy Davis! I will be accompanied by Billy on keys and a live drummer as well. I am so excited to get on stage and give the best show I can.

Thank you for taking the time to chat with Unraveled today! As a last question, if you could describe your music in three words to someone who has never listened to you before, what would it be?

Thank you for having me! Three words to describe my music are; soulful, heartfelt, and smooth.
