A Q+A With Kinder

Congratulations on the release of your single “Lightyears”, can you tell me about the story behind this release?

Thank you! Well, we met John (BCBC) in a studio in Sydney. We had a little jam and he showed us an idea he had. We instantly loved it, so we started workshopping around this idea. We experimented with slowing down the song to record it and then sped it up to see what effect it would have on the vocals and it sounded really cool so we just left it like that. Many people ask if it’s us singing as it doesn’t really sound like us but that’s why.

“Lightyears” collaborates with BCBC, have you worked with them before and what was this like?

No, it was our first time ever meeting him. It is always a gamble meeting someone for the first time and making music but I think we instantly connected and it was a lot of fun so it came together really easily.

You began your career with remixes of famous tracks, highlighting your DJ and club music roots, can you elaborate on how this genre influences your music so much?

We love it, especially back in the day when we were younger. We just wanted a big set full of songs people could sing to. It’s interesting because as we have evolved we have now leaned towards music that is less vocal-heavy and more about the groove but I don’t ever think we will play a set without adding at least a few songs people can have a sing to.

Your discography has taken Australia by storm with a series of dance hits leading to you some of the most significant events like Australia’s F1GP and Vogue x Barbie as well as supporting some of the biggest. How has this been for you guys?

We are very grateful, it’s nice to take a moment and reflect on it actually. There is just so much more we want to do and it’s really easy to get caught up on what the next goal or show you want to play is, but you have to have gratitude.

“Yenko” dives into your personal lives and celebrates your Ghanaian heritage, will we see this more in your future projects?

That particular EP was very centered around our heritage and it was so special for us to do that. It felt like it came together so easily because of the connection. We have taken a little break from that but I absolutely think we will revisit it because as cliche as it sounds it is a part of us so it feels very natural to work in that space.

Can you give us a little hint as to what we can expect from Kinder in the future?

We really love working with other people, so I think you can expect a lot of collaborations and some pretty exciting shows.

Make sure you show Kinder some love and listen to their single ‘Lightyears’ here.
