Rose Gray sat down with the Unraveled Edit team ahead of her first Melbourne show of the year, marking not only her debut performance in the city but also her return to the stage after a year of near-constant touring. While the break from touring had been brief, the excitement of finally arriving in Australia was something she’d been looking forward to for a long time.

Since releasing her album ‘Louder, Please’, she felt an immediate wave of support from Australian listeners, making the trip feel especially meaningful. Performing again felt energising, and despite admitting that touring can be exhausting, she shared how much she had missed being on stage and connecting with audiences through live shows.

Growing up in North East London played a huge role in shaping Rose’s musical identity. Immersed in the city’s nightlife and underground dance scene from a young age, she found herself surrounded by friends who were working in electronic spaces. That environment naturally fed into her sound, which blends electronic pop with emotionally driven, indie-leaning songwriting. While her tracks carry the pulse of dance music, there is a raw, emotive quality to her lyrics that gives her work depth beyond the club setting. For Rose, having a strong creative community around her was foundational, and those early experiences of London nights, music and friendship continue to influence the way she writes and produces today.

Looking back on her album, Rose reflected on how significant the project became for her career, even more than she initially realised while creating it. Releasing the record felt like a personal and creative release, but it wasn’t until the weeks that followed that its impact truly set in. As listeners began to connect with the music and shows started to come together, she felt a shift in momentum that changed everything. Before that moment, she admitted there were times of doubt, when her music wasn’t reaching people and opportunities felt limited. Seeing the album resonate with audiences gave her a renewed sense of belief and direction, and she hopes it continues to find new listeners over time, knowing that music can often resurface and find new meaning years after its release.

While she can imagine a future where she returns to creating music more independently, right now she values the energy and inspiration that comes from working alongside others. Through the success of her recent record, she has found herself connecting with artists she has long admired, opening the door to collaborations that once felt out of reach. When speaking about dream collaborators, she mentioned icons and influences from different eras, expressing a desire to tap into the energy of 90s electronic music while continuing to push her sound forward on future projects.

The past year has brought a wave of recognition for Rose, with industry praise and growing attention positioning her as one of the most exciting emerging artists of the moment. While she remains humble about these achievements, she shared that the journey has helped her feel more aligned with her path in music. With the right team around her and new material already taking shape, she feels ready to move into the next chapter of her career with confidence. After wrapping up her Australian shows in Melbourne, Brisbane and Sydney, she plans to return straight to the studio, dedicating the coming months to writing and finishing her next album before heading back out on tour.

Although her time in Australia is short, Rose has been embracing the atmosphere and culture, finding unexpected similarities between Melbourne and East London in the thrift stores, pubs and overall creative energy of the area. While she joked about being slightly too scared of sharks to swim in the ocean, she’s eager to experience more of Sydney and Brisbane’s coastal lifestyle before heading home. With new music on the horizon and an ever-growing international audience, her Melbourne performance feels like a defining moment in a career that is gaining momentum, rooted in authenticity, creative community and a deep love for the dancefloor.

As Rose Gray continues to carve out her space in modern pop, her latest album ‘Louder, Please’ is now available to stream on all major platforms.
