A Q+A with SACHI

New Zealand dance-electronic duo SACHI (Nick Chrisp and Will Thomas) kicked off 2024 with the brand-new single ‘Wildfire’ and Unraveled got to ask them a few questions about the new single, their journey as artists and future plans for the duo.

You just released your new single ‘Wildfire’, can you tell us a bit about this single and the story behind it?

This was such a fun tune to put together. We were chasing the elusive ‘stadium-house’ sound with Wildfire. It is undeniably energetic and driving production with a powerful pop vocal that grabs you instantly.  We wrote the first demo of it with Cazzie Opeia in Stockholm in 2022, and over the past two years, we’ve rewritten and remixed it through many different versions of the song until we landed on what it sounds like today! Our friends Aston, Ella Monnery and Mazbou Q also contributed to the vocal arrangement. We're so blessed to have this all-star cast on our track.

Can you tell us about your live show and its evolution over the years?

Our live show is the heart of our band, everything else we do stems from there - we always try our best to put on an inspiring and entertaining show for our audience to have lifelong memories from, just as our favourite artists have for us.

There’s so much time that goes into the audio and the visual together, from lights to how we perform the songs, what the stage looks and feels like, and what’s on the screen behind us. We’re very lucky to be able to work with our friends at Human Person on how the show looks. The show has grown with us as artists and individuals and will continue to. Whatever facets that we feel will elevate the show, and make it more enjoyable for us or the audience, we’ll bring into design adjustments or progressions.

Building our live show is one of the most exciting parts of the creative process for us.

Do you have any standout influences that have impacted your sound and style?

We both have such separate tastes and influences, and they have shifted over the years, but there have always been the key mutual ones like Daft Punk, Lady Gaga, Bob Sinclar, Calvin Harris and The Chemical Brothers. One of our biggest mutual non-musical influences is Sacha Baron Cohen.

You had such a great year last year off the releases of ‘Whole Again’, ‘Feel Good’ and ‘Those Tears’, what was this like for you? Do you have any highlights?

Thank you! It’s great to be putting out music, and we’re buzzing to share everything else we’ve been working on in 2024, too.

If you could pick any festival/event to play at, what would it be and why?

It’s got to be Glastonbury in the UK. We have watched so many amazing performances online from that festival over the years, and the cultural impact that it has had on the contemporary music landscape would be so incredible to be part of. It just looks like such an amazing time. Hopefully one day!

What's in store for SACHI in 2024?

We’ll be debuting a new live show with lots of new music! We can’t wait to show everyone what we have been working on and dance together at some shows:))))
