Betty Taylor Release Their New Single 'FUCK YOU'

Last month, Betty Taylor enchanted audiences across Australia with their debut headline tour ‘Glitter’. With their unapologetic, matter-of-fact lyrics and dreamy indie/pop sound, Betty Taylor has crowds across the country swooning for more.

One tune I simply could not stop thinking about after their Melbourne show was aptly titled ‘Fuck You’. The fiery yet heartfelt lyrics kept replaying in my head for days. Therefore, I am utterly delighted to say, that the four-piece have just shared ‘Fuck You’ on all platforms this morning for me (and you) to scream to in the car, on repeat.

In ‘Fuck You’, frontwoman Sophie Patrick explores the push and pull of a relationship that is buckling beneath you, yet being desperate for it to work. The opening line “fuck the way you treated me/fuck me for letting you” is a brutal lyric to kick the song off with and that guilt and frustration are all too relatable for 20-something-year-olds nowadays.

Lines such as “You kiss me and it feels like something/How could it mean nothing to you?”, pull so violently at the heartstrings. Capturing the absolute confusion and heartbreak that is young love and relationships.

The tune is reminiscent of the gut-wrenching poem, read by Julia Stiles in ‘10 Things I Hate About You’ (1999). The final line is, “But mostly I hate the way I don't hate you, Not even close, Not even a little bit, Not even at all.”. That internal battle you have about missing someone even if they aren't the right person for you. Wanting them back all the same.

The tune is accompanied by a much more cheerful video clip than its lyrics may suggest. Betty Taylor performing in a karaoke bar, lyrics on-screen included, so no excuses not to sing (or scream) along.

In April of this year, the group were Triple j's Unearthed Feature Artist of the Week. A huge achievement for a band that, at the time, had only released two singles (Stallin’ followed by Glitter). They’ve also supported the likes of Verge Collection, Pacific Avenue and Girl in Red.

In July, Betty Taylor is opening for Matt Corby at District 14 in Narre Warren and will also be playing ‘Springtime Festival’ in September.

There is no doubt Betty Taylor is making a name for themselves. Captivating audiences everywhere they go with their relentless honesty and cheeky yet charming lyrics. If you haven't already, it’s time for you to jump on the bandwagon, this is going to be big.

Go check out Betty Taylor and jump in the car and play ‘Fuck You’ on repeat here.
