An Evening With Betty Taylor

Sunshine Coast band, Betty Taylor, named after frontwoman, Sophie Patrick's grandmother had their first headline show in Melbourne last night. Tucked in the corner stage upstairs of Yah Yah's, fitted out with low lights and a disco ball, Betty Taylor put on a hell of a show.

A set list described Sophie as "basically a diary" of her life. Opening the set with a dreamy guitar solo, it was obvious this woman is well and truly building a dedicated fan base. One audience member showed off their Betty Taylor tattoo to the band the first chance she had. The chemistry between band members was obvious, with rock and roll heading banging kisses on cheeks. It's hard to believe they only went from a duo to a 4 piece in the last year. It doesn't stop there though, Betty Taylor's crowd interaction was mesmerizing, wandering through the audience, demonstrating it's not only reserved for big-time acts.

A personal highlight was a tune called 'Fuck You' dedicated to an ex-lover with scathing lyrics, as you might imagine.

Ending the show with "what we're all here for" their latest release 'Glitter'. An upbeat indie track, about being done with false promises and being better off on your own than with someone who hurts you over and over again. Overall, Betty Taylor is absolutely one to watch, often compared to War on Drugs, Julia Jacklin, and Middle Kids, the band is forging a path of their own. Keep your eye out for what else is to come from this absolute powerhouse group.
