The Perfect Pre-Summer Gig With DICE

Photographs by Eloise Beath

Perth-based four-piece, DICE is the up-and-coming Aussie alt-rock band to be on your summer soundtrack. Forming during the pandemic, the boys have steadily built a dedicated fan base, with no signs of slowing down. Following their sold-out May-June tour, DICE brought the heat back to the East Coast in early October for another headline tour, much to the delight of their growing fan base.

Fans piled into Sydney’s Crowbar for the sold-out gig last Friday night, a venue that offers little to no distractions from the stage. Support acts The Colliflowers and The Velvet Club well and truly had the crowd warmed up and ready to go.

Kicking off the set with crowd favourite Double Espresso, a track that explores the exhaustion that results from big nights out followed by mornings fuelled with coffee and the consequences of the toxic cycle. The perfect track to get the heart rate up for a killer show.

Although the band is still relatively newly formed, the cohesion and on-stage chemistry between bandmates is palpable. Weaving seamlessly around the stage and each other, the crowd sings along to every word.

Beach balls and inflatable dice were playfully thrown into the crowd during ‘Stockholm’, a track the boys describe as a Gen-Z take on Stockholm Syndrome. Unpacking the feeling of being unable to escape the people around you whose values and morals don’t align with your own. The song provides you with that perfect coastal indie-rock vibe for easy listening.

Rounding out the set with Stop Sign, The most listened-to track with over 8.5 MILLION streams on Spotify, and counting. Complete with pyrotechnics, the band farewelled the crowd with this sunny, hopeful banger.

If you missed them this time around, DICE are booked and busy later on in the year with sets at RollingSet in December and Spaced Out and Lost Paradise over the New Year.

In the meantime, it's time for you to update your summertime driving playlist with all things DICE.
