Spacey Jane’s ‘If That Makes Sense’ Is Their Boldest and Most Emotionally Charged Album Yet

Spacey Jane’s new album ‘If That Makes Sense’ is a true masterpiece. From the moment the intro seamlessly flows into ‘Through My Teeth’, you knew that the listening experience was going to be exceptional.

As a long-time Spacey Jane fan, I can attest that this album has been a long time coming for many of us. But those kinds of projects are always worth the wait.

Beginning with ‘Album Intro’ Caleb’s deep sigh seamlessly introduces ‘Through My Teeth’, almost as if it’s a break into a new era, a new door, and a chance to finally get everything off your chest. At this point, I had chills.

Before you know it, you’ve listened to the first four perfectly upbeat tracks like ‘Whateverrr’ and single ‘All The Noise’. You’ve probably had a little boogie in your room, and your heart rate is through the roof. Then, you slow down to have a little cry with ‘Impossible to Say’ that blends perfectly into their already released single ‘How To Kill Houseplants’. To wrap up the somber mood, Spacey put their hearts on their sleeves with ‘I Can’t Afford To Lose You’. Want to have a cry? Scream? Or shove your head in a pillow? That’s the perfect collection of songs to do so.

Now that you’ve shed your tears, it’s time to bring the mood back up (kind of) with ‘So Much Taller’.  These lyrics are absolutely devastating once you finally register what they’re saying, but you still can’t stop tapping your feet, it’s just that good. On the first listen, I couldn’t help but draw parallels with their hit ‘Lunchtime’, and I’m not mad about it. Despite the refreshing and defining moment that ‘If That Makes Sense’ is in Spacey Jane’s discography, it was heartwarming to be taken back to their earlier eras and know that they haven’t lost track of where they started.

As the album wraps up, we’re treated to the masterpiece that is ‘Estimated Delivery’. As the echo of “I guess that’s how it goes” and “Honey, I’m coming home” ring through your ears, you’re reminded of the pure vocal talent that Harper never fails to present in each album. Even though you’re playing air-drums to the beat, you’re hit with the gut wrenching words of “You’re in my head, you’re wearing my clothes”. And if you’ve dealt with a loss to some degree in your life, this one may leave you sitting in silence for a while, contemplating everything.

To conclude, ‘August’ encapsulates every aspect of the album; love, pain, growth, and life. Listening to this, everything still feels much lighter than the tension at the beginning of the album. Not sure what magic was behind this album, but Spacey Jane has managed to encapsulate every emotion seamlessly throughout the album. ‘If That Makes Sense’ is the perfect soundtrack to any season, no matter if it’s hot girl summer or sad girl autumn.

So do yourself a favour and give it a listen now! And if you love it, make sure you snatch up your tickets to see them LIVE in a city near you.
