Lastlings in their ‘Perfect World’

Brother and Sister duo 'Lastlings' kicked off their 'Perfect World' world tour at Melbourne's Forum. An all too excited and die-hard crowd crammed into the Theatre to experience the electro/pop duo in all their glory.

Lastlings, Comprised of Amy and Josh Dowdle, the newly released sophomore album 'Perfect World' looks to immerse and transport their listeners through growing soundscapes and heartbreaking lyrics. Lyrics such as “Been looking for you all my life/ But you’re letting me slip away…” from the opening track 'Holding Me Like Water' captures the final breaths of a spiralling relationship.

Dowdle describes the album as a sort of early-twenties journal and how love can be "so messy" in that era of your life. The set stunned its fans with a mesmerising light show and bass you could feel throughout your whole body. A simple stage set with hypnotic lighting resembling that of a nightclub, lulling the audience from slow measured movements to an all out groove with a single bass drop.

A particularly special moment was during 'Noise', Dowdle instructed the audience to crouch low (as low as you can in a pack sold out theatre) until the the chorus, and once it dropped, the crowd jumped up and, for lack of a better term, went nuts.

Don't be fooled by the upbeat instrumentals though, Lastlings are very much creating "crying in the club" dance music. These tracks would hold your hand and whisper that everything will be ok when the melancholy takes over you on the dance floor. The pair are only just getting started with their world tour set to hit Japan and the USA and Canada in September.
