A Breathtaking Evening with Noah Kahan
It’s been one of the most talked about gigs since the announcement, with fans frantically panicking over tickets and sharing their love for the singer/songwriter you knew this guy had to be good. Arriving at the venue, I saw a crowd of all ages and backgrounds, coming together to celebrate one of their favourite artists. The line wrapped around the gardens as they anticipated entry into the venue, some lining up for hours.
The 27-year-old has had a remarkable journey, signing to a label in his early 20s and now being nominated at the Grammy’s for Best New Artist, Noah Kahan has taken over the world and for the better. His talent and passion for the craft were made evident in Melbourne as his band didn’t make it out of the US in time to perform beside Kahan.
Despite the circumstances, everyone still flocked to see Kahan, excited for the unique performance ahead of them. And Kahan didn’t disappoint. Walking on stage, it was like the band was there behind him, the crowd roared and Kahan belted out hits including ‘She Calls Me Back’, ‘Stick Season’, and ‘Everywhere, Everything’.
Once the initial excitement dissipated, it was like you were in an empty room, just listening to Noah sing his heart out. Everyone was still mesmerised by the talent from Kahan and collectively embraced what was truly a special performance. Throughout the set, Kahan had the help of one of his band mates that made it into the country in time, where TJ performed hits alongside Kahan including ‘You’re Gonna Go Far’, ‘Call Your Mom’, ‘Northern Altitude’ and ‘Dial Drunk’.
5 years since his last tour in Australia, this performance solidified the love his fans have for the artist here in Australia. Packed out to the brim, singing and hugging, watching in awe, the crowd was not disappointed. There were even families and fans out the front of the venue, with their picnic blankets singing along.
Noah Kahan’s music, strong yet calming, found its perfect space in the Sidney Myer Music Bowl last night. Despite its large scale, you felt like you were right in front of him. As a listener for the last few years, I can speak for most fans when I say that the joy and experience of having a full acoustic set is impossible to put into words. It was just so special. The mutual connection and love between Noah and his fans will forever make Australia a special place for Kahan to perform.
