Spacey Jane: A Performance That Captivated from Start to Finish

Leaving the house was a challenge in the cold, but knowing I was about to see Spacey Jane in just a few hours made every shiver and uncomfortable layer worth it.

As we gathered at PICA, a sense of euphoria filled the crowd. With an 18+ audience, it felt like a close-knit community of fans who had supported the band for years. Those who had patiently waited since their last show at the Forum finally got to experience that rare sense of freedom and joy that only a live Spacey Jane performance can offer.

If you’ve listened to Spacey’s most recent album, ‘If That Makes Sense’, you probably remember the chills you felt from listening to ‘Intro’ into ‘Through My Teeth’. Well, we got to experience that in real life, and it was worth the wait (and 10000x better than you thought it could be).

The band’s confidence on stage was undeniable, and it was clear that this new sound was the perfect reflection of their journey as artists so far.

The crowd was treated to recent hits like “Estimated Delivery,” “One Bad Day,” and “Whateverrrr,” but the real magic happened when they played fan favourites like “Skin,” “Lunchtime,” “Feeding the Family,” and “Sawteeth.” The energy in the room reached a fever pitch.

Highlights included their performances of “All the Noise” and “So Much Taller.” The crowd matched Spacey Jane’s energy with every word, singing along as if the entire venue was one connected voice. Fans were on shoulders, eyes fixed on the stage, fully immersed in the moment.

It’s not a Spacey gig without some more emotional tracks like ‘How To Kill Houseplants’. When the single came out earlier this year, we saw a level of vulnerability from the band that we hadn’t seen in a while. It was both refreshing and heartbreaking, but there was a sense of connection between everyone in the room. They were all relaying their own stories as they sang along, just like the impact ‘It’s Been A Long Day’ has and continues to have with listeners.

To wrap up the perfectly curated setlist, they closed the show with ‘Lots of Nothing’. The energy levels were still as high (if not stronger) than the beginning of the evening.

As expected from the countless Spacey Jane shows I’ve attended, I was on cloud nine. Peppa, Kieran, Ashton, and Caleb continually impress me, and I’m sure the rest of the crowd feels the same. Despite the years between their last two albums, Spacey Jane proved they can still deliver a show that will captivate their fans. With their perfect mix of upbeat anthems and emotional ballads, it’s clear that Spacey Jane is only getting better, and the best is yet to come.
